This notice explains what SDM Contracting (NW) Ltd does with personal information, whether you contact us about work, become a customer, or simply visit this website. We are the data controller for that information.

This website sets no cookies
This website does not set cookies, does not use local or session storage, and does not load anything from a third party. There is no analytics, no advertising or social media tracking, and no embedded content from other sites.
Web fonts are served from this website's own domain rather than from Google, so visiting these pages sends nothing to Google.
That is why you are not being asked to accept cookies. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, consent is only needed for cookies and similar technologies that are not strictly necessary, and this site uses none.
Links to our Facebook and Instagram pages are ordinary links. Nothing is sent to those companies unless you choose to click through, and their own privacy notices apply once you do.
What we collect, and why
Because this site has no contact form, we only receive information you give us directly — by calling, texting or emailing us.
- Enquiries
- Your name, phone number, email address, the address of the property, and a description of the work. Used to understand what you need and prepare a quotation. Lawful basis: taking steps at your request before entering a contract.
- Carrying out work
- Site details, access arrangements, photographs of the installation, test results and certification. Used to do the work safely and issue the correct paperwork. Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you, and our legal obligation to certify electrical work.
- Invoicing and records
- Billing details and payment records. Used to invoice you and keep proper accounts. Lawful basis: legal obligation under tax and company law.
- Safety and compliance
- Records relating to electrical installation condition reports and other statutory testing. Lawful basis: legal obligation.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for marketing.
We share it only where we need to: with our accountant for bookkeeping and tax, with our email provider which hosts our correspondence, and with a certification body where a scheme requires notification of work. Where the law requires disclosure, we comply.
If a job needs another trade, we pass on only what that person needs to attend — usually a name, an address and a phone number.
Our email is hosted by Google. This means correspondence may be stored outside the UK, including in the United States, which is covered by the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not become work are deleted within twelve months.
Records relating to work we have carried out — including certificates, test results and invoices — are kept for six years after the end of the job. That reflects the time limit for bringing a contract claim under the Limitation Act 1980 and HMRC's requirement to retain business records.
Electrical certification is kept for as long as it may be needed to demonstrate the installation was safe and compliant when handed over.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, and to have it deleted where we no longer have a reason to keep it.
You can also ask us to restrict how we use it, object to our use of it where we rely on legitimate interests, and ask for it in a portable format where it was provided by you and we rely on consent or contract.
There is no charge, and we will respond within one month. To make a request, contact us using the details in section 01.
We do not make any decisions about you by automated means, and we do not carry out profiling.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. Complaining to us does not affect that right.
